We perform Quickscan upon all our first year students over two days within course confirmation; this equates to approx 800 students. We feel it is important for the correct people to run this valuable assessment so therefore support teachers and learning support assistants run the two day programme. It is really useful to have a support specialist within the room to aid students as if they have any difficulties accessing the programme, the support teacher can then offer individual support.
When we are providing students with information regarding their learning style we offer them a simple leaflet explaining how they can get the most out of their studies by using their particular learning style correctly.
If a student’s assessment shows that they may require support or further assessment we give them a simple letter stating that the Academic and Learning Support Co-ordinator will be in touch with them to discuss possible support. We emphasise that if the student does not want support then it will not be forced upon them and that they are free to self refer later in the year if they so wish.
All information is kept upon a data base that can be accessed by teaching staff.
