Installation and Operation Notes

An 'Autoinstaller' panel should appear after you have inserted the CD into your CD drive.
If it does not appear, select your CD drive in 'My Computer' and run Start.exe from the root of the CD.

The Autoinstaller panel has buttons along its bottom edge that will launch the full installation and operation manuals as well as the helpfile and a powerpoint display.

They may take around 30 seconds to load.

Minimum System Requirements

The requirements to run the full StudyScan Computerised Diagnostic Dyslexia Assessment Suite are:

• Windows 9x/NT/2000/ME/XP • 64 MB of RAM • 400 MB of free hard disk space • 16 bit colours or more • Pentium 133 MHz or higher • CD-ROM drive
• SB Compatible sound card and speakers

While the programme will run in Windows Vista 32bit OS, installation has occasionally been a problem.

This situation is currently under review.

Stand-Alone Installations

THESE SHOULD ALWAYS BE MADE TO THE DEFAULT INSTALLATION PATH TO ENSURE THAT FUTURE UPGRADES CAN BE EASILY INSTALLED

The "Click to install The StudyScan Suite V3" button on the Auto installer will install Version 3.00 to your hard drive.

The upgrades are only needed for existing StudyScan Suite version 2.00 installations.

A few pointers we hope will helpful for installations.

SELECT OPTION TO RUN FROM HARD DRIVE DURING MAIN INSTALLATION

Even if you are not running StudyScan, it is easiest to install all three programs (QuickScan, StudyScan and StatScan)

As well as for viewing and reprinting QuickScan reports generating StudyScan reports and extracting student data to Excel spreadsheets, (StatScan Report Menu) StatScan is also needed for re-setting all system functions if required. This includes reformatting batchcodes and modifying QuickScan Information. (StatScan System Menu)

Installing all programs means that the data structure will be easier to maintain.

YOU WILL BE ASKED FOR BATCHCODES DURING INSTALLATION:

Without them QuickScan cannot run!

QuickScan Student "Batchcode" Numbers

If you are not happy with the way they were set up during installation of the programme, batch numbers are most easily reconfigured using the StatScan System menu. This utility can be used both to set up batch numbers and to enter local information.

They are 8 characters long and include a means of identifying the machine or network the QuickScan programme was run from and providing a unique Student Identity Code.

For example "University College Anytown" might use UCA as its institution identifier "N" for the network (or '1' for the first machine) then the remaining characters start at aaaa and run to zzzz - these are automatically incremented by the programme.
The Start batchcode on this basis would be UCANaaaa and the end batchcode would be UCANzzzz.

If the programme is ever restored from a backup after a system failure it is vital that the start batchcode should be updated with a number higher than the last student code issued. The StatScan programme has a utility in its Report Menu for "View QuickScan Usage" to enable you to identify the last code used.

Registering the Programme

Before it can be run the programme needs to be set up using the StudyScan Suite license utility which should have installed itself into the StudyScan Shortcut folder. (A red telephone icon.)

When you run this utility it will give you a code number to quote to the registration service desk on 020 7916 1998 or 020 8674 7786.
Do not close the registration utility before you have entered the code you are given - it will reset itself and expect a different response code the next time it is run!

Please leave a message, if you land on voicemail, so your call can be returned!

Economical StudyScan Report Printing

You can radically reduce the destruction of the forests (!) by selecting and printing, in StatScan, only those pages one at a time that are directly relevant to the case you are working with. In the File Menu at the top of the report there is an option to "Print Shortform Report" This includes the results page, the graph, the opening page which includes information drawn from QuickScan and the dyslexia diagnostic page at the end of the dyslexia report.

The Repscan file conversion utility

This program is designed to convert StudyScan and QuickScan reports to HTML for storage and printing. It should only be installed on the Tutor's client machine and care must be taken to ensure the security of the report files it generates.
